Resurrected by life-long Burgundy lover Mark OConnell in 2011 and our dear friend Pierre Meurgey, Domaine Clos de la Chapelle is headquartered at the Chateau de Bligny, owned by Pierre and no less than Dominique Lafon. The talent behind the new Domaine is considerable, and the wines are already getting rave reviews from the likes of Allen Meadows (Burghound), Neal Martin & Jasper Morris.
We were so impressed by the wines after tasting the 2022s and were surprised to hear that they had little presence in the UK, so it is a real pleasure to offer these wines.
“Listed in Dr. Lavalle famous 1855 classifications as a “Tte de Cuve”, i.e one of the best of the commune. Aromas really lift out of the glass, red berry compote, wilted violets, dark, damp earth, polished wood and a lingering medicinal note. Attack is sleek and bright, plush red cherries and cacao nibs bound by well-covered, juicy tannins which give good shape and length without excessive grip, rather channelling the melange of forest fruits and sweet roasted herb notes. A refreshing twist of orange bitters on the finish completes this very attractive, well-tailored wine.”
