Developed by Ian Macleod Distillers in 2006, the Smokehead is an intensely peaty range of single malts from undisclosed distilleries. Since its first release in 2006, there have now been many extensions of the brand, including the 2012 Smokehead Rock Edition as a limited release designed to “celebrate its credentials as the rock ‘n’roll spirit of choice”. In 2009 the brand began a long association with the Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards, as well as the Marshall Ultimate Band Contest.
The Sherry Bomb edition is matured in Oloroso sherry casks, boasting smoke and dried fruit by the truckload. It’s a powerfully flavoursome dram, and unashamedly so.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Dark chocolate, seaweed, a hint of medicinal peat smoke, prunes and clove.
Palate: BBQ smoke, stem ginger, sherried peels, sea salt, rum-raisin ice cream.
Finish: Clove, red chilli flake, treacle.
