In 1929, Julian Barcelo, a 25-year-old Spaniard, arrived at Santo Domingo and founded Barcelo and Co. He soon began producing its first rums and promoting them around the country. In the 1990s, Barcelo and Co., seeking to expand its brand, gave Spanish entrepreneurs who had extensive experience in the production of wines and spirits, the right to export Ron Barcelo. Ron Barcelo SRL was founded. At present, Ron Barcelo SRL continues to produce only and exclusively Ron Barcelo. The company has a presence in more than 50 countries and is positioned as the fourth largest exporter of rum globally.
