Established by Nicolas Ruinart in 1729, Ruinart is the oldest producer of Champagne in France. The founder was the nephew of Dom Thierry Ruinart, a winemaker and Benedictine monk, who had visited European courts, witnessed the popularity of Champagne and visited European courts, witnessed the popularity of Champagne and anticipated the scale and extent of its success. In 1728 Louis XV gave permission for the wine to be transported in bottles rather that casks, thus facilitating the distribution of champagne over greater distances.

The Ruinart family were much travelled, forging links with Russia and the U.S.A. Bought byMot et Chandon in 1963, and now part of the LVMHconglomerate, Ruinart has, however retained the original character of its wine, being predominantly a Chardonnay based house due to its historic Chardonnay vineyards east of the Montagne de Reims.

Ruinartcuves are always of great distinction , with low dosage, and made using carefully proportioned amounts from their significant stocks of reserve wines. The blend has a greater element of Pinot Noir than most champagnes, answering the preferred taste of the English. The ageing and contact with the lees are also relatively larger. the cellar master, who was recruited from Veuve Clicquot, has created a blend of 60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay with 25% of reserve wines to make this sumptuous champagne.
