Each year, Michter’s Distillery pays homage to the illustrious history of its original creator, John Shenk, who established the distillery in 1753, eventually becoming known as Michter’s in the 20th Century. Shenk’s Homestead serves as this tribute, showcasing a Kentucky sour mash whiskey with a substantial rye presence, including malted rye within the 2023 edition’s mashbill. The whiskey was meticulously aged in various cask types, with a portion resting in toasted French oak barrels crafted from 24-month air-dried wood sourced from the Vosges region of France. The remaining portion matured in 18-month naturally air-dried and seasoned wood, showcasing Michter’s signature toast and char profile.
