Messmer, located in the Pfalz region of Burrweiler in south-west Germany, has been home to winemaking for around 300 years. Gentle winemaking is the name of the game here: only organic fertilizers are used (biodynamic cultivation is in progress) and fermentations are cool, slow and small-batch, the wines bottled with the gentlest filtration. This is bright, juicy and very quaffable Pinot Noir, showing strawberry and spice notes, backed by freshly picked herbs. Have with traditionalchar siu pork or English picnic fare – cold meats, cheeses, pies and pastries.
