A full and complex nose, with aromas of cherry and ripe plum that cover notes of tea leaves, cedar and Mediterranean herbs on a background of dried flowers. Defined and deep in the mouth, with polished tannins and full of nuances; harmonious and long-lived.

Grapes are sourced from their Ygay Estate: 300 hectares of vineyards surrounding the winery in the southernmost point of Rioja Alta with mainly calcareous-clay soils. Altitude ranges from 320 to 485 meters. A blend of 82% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, 8% Mazuelo.
The bunches are destemmed and gently crushed. The grapes ferment separately in stainless steel tanks. The wine is matured for 26 months in 225-liter capacity American oak barrels.

“A well-structure wine that has long to live. Faithful expression of the vintage and our Ygay Estate.”-Mara Vargas – Technical Manager.

Established in 1852, Murrieta is one of the oldest and most respected bodegas in Rioja Alta. Their wines are concentrated and long-lived and some, like “Castillo Ygay”, have become legendary amongst wine lovers. Marqus de Murrieta has not stood back and stagnated; however, their 300 hectare estate produces Dalmau – a blend which represents an avant-garde expression of their terroir.

“Aromas of black berries, black olives, black truffles, autumn leaves and earth. Grilled orange peel. Very complex. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins and a complex and complete finish. Nicely persistent and focused. 26 months in American oak. Drink or hold.” 96 Points. James Suckling October 2023 (JamesSuckling.com)
