Kopke first began as a shipping company in 1638. It eventually became internationally recognised as the very first Port House in the industry. In 1781 they became a major producer of Port when they bought a farm in the Douro and began to focus their business entirely on port production. Since then, Kopke has won many gold medals and other numerous awards for their excellent ports, particularly those in the Tawny style.
The ports are immediately recognisable by the hand-stencilled labelling which has not changed in centuries. All the bottles are still hand stencilled in the traditional way to this day.
Hand-picked at the optimum time, the grapes are then destemmed, crushed and macerated to extract the perfect colour, tannins and aromas, enhanced by constant churning during fermentation.
A deep ruby colour, with a garnet rim. A classic bouquet, on which the liveliness of young fruit produces a delicate balance. Firm and powerful in the mouth, it shows flavours of fresh fruit and delivers a long and harmonious finish.
