75cl * Vegetarian * 13.5% ABV * Baden, Germany
In 1985, after ten years abroad, Karl Heinz Johner and his wife Irene founded a little Weingut (vineyard & winery) in their home village Bischoffingen in the Kaisersthl, located in southwestern Germany, near the border with France. Their focus was on the Burgundian styles wines full of structure and pure elegance. Despite having to overcome initial issues, the young Karl Johner soon established himself as a pioneer of a new German wine style.
This is WeingutKarl H. Johner’s entry-level Pinot Noir. The oak here is very gentle and well integrated, it gives a complex and alluring aroma of toasted wood and tobacco alongside red cherries and dark berries. Surprisingly full-bodied on the palate, the tannins are gentle with some subtle residual astringency. It has medium aciditywith an elegant, delicate finish.
A perfect partner to ravioli with mushrooms, quiche or grilled pork.
Drinking now, this wine will keep up to 20 years.
