The story of Poggio Valente begins in 1996, when Elisabetta Geppetti acquired a vineyard that turned out to be a perfect home for Sangiovese, Tuscanys flagship grape. After replanting, this site quickly began to showcase its full potential.
The wine comes from a single 10-hectare cru in Pereta, just 6km from the Tuscan coast, sitting at 350 metres above sea level. The mix of clay and sandstone soils gives the wine energy, freshness and depth. As Monica Larner of Wine Advocate puts it, Poggio Valente has evolved over the years to become Maremmas answer to Brunello di Montalcino.
Elisabetta Geppetti took over the family estate, Fattoria Le Pupille, in the 1980s at just 20 years old. With vision and determination, she transformed it into one of Maremmas most respected wineriesfirst gaining acclaim with the pioneering Super Tuscan, Saffredi. Today, the estates wines, grown among rolling hills and olive groves, continue to reflect the authenticity and spirit of this coastal corner of Tuscany.
