Nestled in the Vale of York, Dunesforde is a four-acre, boutique vineyard established by the Townsend family. Working in harmony with the cool climate, their aim is to produce fruit of the highest quality to make distinctive, characterful English wines in one of the most northerly vineyards in the UK.
Using inspiration drawn from the vineyards in Tuscany and the local Roman heritage, planting began near the family home in Upper Dunsforth, North Yorkshire in 2016. The land is now home to four grape varieties, all carefully selected because of their suitability to this northern location – Bacchus, Solaris, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir Prcoce.
Four years on, in October 2019 Dunesford introduced their first harvest wines and in June 2020, they released the 2019 harvest.
In November 2020, they released their collection of limited edition sparkling wines from the spectacular 2018 harvest.
Dunesforde are proud to say their wines have received awards from WineGB and IEWA including the UKs Best Single Varietal White Wine and Best Wine for Midlands and North 2024 from WineGB for Dunesforde Pinot Gris 2022.
From these small beginnings Dunesforde now supply their award winning wines to events, host their own events and hire out the impressive vineyard building for private events. The team also run popular tours and tastings and have a fabulous wine bar and terrace where they serve their full range of sparkling and still wines.
Production
100% estate grown Precoce.
Vinification was performed in stainless steel. The wine is ‘lightly oaked’.
Tasting Notes
This red wine made from 100% Dunesforde grown Pinot Noir Prcoce is bursting with ripe flavours of blackcurrant and raspberry. Light and welcoming, a wonderful red to serve with food or as an aperitif. Try it lightly chilled on a summers day.
