Chateau Romassan forms part of the Domaines Ott estate, founded in 1896 and today run by fourth-generation cousins Christian and Jean-Francois Ott. Their Rose is a brilliant expression of the Bandol appellation in which the estate sits.
Grown on limestone and sandstone soils under plenty of sunlight, the fruit develops excellent depth, freshness and structure. The nose opens with a delicate bouquet of citrus, white blossoms and wild herbs. On the palate, there is pink grapefruit, blood orange and fleshy stone fruit, layered with crushed raspberries and a saline minerality. Alongside the roundness of fruit, there is good structure and precision, leading into a long and textured finish.
Pair with grilled langoustines, fresh burrata with heirloom tomatoes, or simply on its own over a summer evening.
“A reminder of Bandol’s superiority when it comes to rose. Crushed stone minerality grounds this fresh, alluring version, with notes of dried lavender and salted herbs alongside mandarin acidity. This well-meshed version sings in harmony from start to vibrant finish.” 92 points, Wine Spectator
“The 2023 Rose Chateau Romassan captivates with a bouquet that mixes savoury and sweet, as nuances of D’Anjou pear and lime zest combine with spring flowers, ginger and green melon. This is vividly fruit-focused within, with cooling acidity and silken textures, coming across as lifted and refined yet also potent. Its minerality shines through the finish, crisp, nearly crunchy and long with a spicy tinge that pinches at the palate.” 92 points, Vinous
