ORGANIC /LOW SULPHITE
A nice full-bodied French option from theunder-the-radar region of Gaillac in the South of France (near Cahors). Syrah joins the indigenous local varieties of Braucol and Duras, both of which are densely tannic and yield beautifully structured wines with notes of dark fruit and a woody earthiness (akin to a Malbec). In the glass it isa beautiful cloudy purple colour, witha slight funky reductive aroma typical of Syrah upon opening. If that’s not your bag give it a few minutes to blow off and you’ll be met with a basket of captivating black fruits, alongside a host of developed flavours like dried fruits such as fig and prune,a ferrous-metallic minerality and savoury/gamey/meaty notes on the finish. The tannins are gentle and the alcohol is well-integrated,with the wine showing depth and complexity well beyond its price point.
