We managed to have a few minutes with Claire Villars-Lurton who emphasised that 2023 was a vintage of adjustment and readjustment from the off. Young vines suffered most because they havent yet adapted to the extremes of weather, and La Gurgue has more young Merlot that was left out of the blend; Petit Verdot coming more into play. This is a lovely Margaux with a full, quite creamy nose, then damson and mulberry on the palate with nice weight and quite chalky tannins. Balancing the structure is a core of black fruit with a saline finish. Mid term drinking, very harmonious.
