For our latest themed BYO Supper we were joined by Augustin Lecaille, representing three of the most exciting and best value chteaux on the left bank of Bordeaux: Lafon Rochet (Saint-Estphe), Pdesclaux (Pauillac) and dIssan (Margaux).
Lafon Rochet, called by Antonio Galloni the most elegant wine in St Estphe, whose near neighbours include Cos dEstournel to the east and Lafite to the south, has undergone significant investment since being purchased by the Lorenzetti family from Basile Tesseron in 2021, but the excellence of its terroir including blue clay rich soils which underpin the quality of its Merlot remain the same. Fifth Growth Chteau Pdesclaux lies directly between Mouton Rothschild and the Gironde river and is one of Pauillacs true hidden gems, improving almost with every new vintage and offering a exceptional quality for its modest price. Finally well taste dIssan, one of Margaux most easterly chteaux, and one of Bordeaux oldest. This 3rd Growth, previously served at the wedding Eleanor of Aquitaine and King Henry II, still flies slightly under the radar but a string of impressive years is ensuring that Mdoc purists are really starting to take note.
Guests joined with a bottle of their favourite claret, to discuss all things Bordeaux over a casual 3-course supper.
