ANGIRA, the Greek word for anchor was the symbol of the great diplomat, statesman and ethnarch Eleftherios Venizelos. He was a leader in Cretes independence from the Ottoman Empire. Our grandfather served as his bodyguard and hence witnessed Venizelos greatness firsthand becoming a loyal supporter to the point that he would campaign on his behalf yelling through the streets and at public gatherings ANGIRA!
