Although there remains some youthful greenness, the bouquet of this full-bodied wine suggests tremendously ripe fruit, reminiscent of spicy plum jam. A ripe, sweet-fruited nose bursts with berry fruit, pepper, and vanilla, with subtle hints of Karoo bos adding a touch of wild herbaceousness. On the palate, a full, rounded mouthfeel introduces rich plum flavours that echo the nose, evolving beautifully as the glass stands. Smoke and spice emerge, adding layers of complexity, while rounded tannins make for very easy drinkingeven in its youth. This wine will continue to develop with great benefit over 45 years.

Perfect Serve

A fantastic food wine, particularly suited to rich stews and hearty winter dishes. Pair it with spiced game casseroles, stuffed roast pork or lamb, or even pickled tongue for a bold, flavour-packed experience. For a simpler pairing, aged cheeses and smoky barbecued meats also work beautifully.
