Ballykeefe Poitin

Poitn has a special place in Irish folklore, produced for centuries in defiance of a legal ban from 1661 to 1997, Ballykeefe Poitn recaptures that rebellious legacy, by winning a Master Class award, at the Global Spirit Masters 2018. An Award, normally reserved for the rarest and finest aged spirits, putting Ballykeefe Poitn in a class of its own.

Handcrafted in 7 stages over 7 days, it is triple distilled in Italian copper pot stills.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Slightly fruity with hints of Rhine Valley wines.

Palate: Warming and viscous with a malted biscuit flavour, hints of red peppers and new oak.

Finish: Long with an oakey sherry finish and a rich buttery feel

Poitin

Poitn anglicized as poteen , is a traditional Irish distilled beverage (4090% ABV). Former common names for Poitn were “Irish moonshine” and “mountain dew”. It was traditionally distilled in a small pot still and the term is a diminutive of the Irish word pota, meaning “pot”. The Irish word for a hangover is pit. Perfect Serve

Tumbler glass filled with ice, add 35.5ml of Ballykeefe Poitn and top with premium ginger ale. Garnish with a thin slice of orange or orange peel.

Ballykeefe Distillery is proudly owned and managed by the Ging Family who trace their unbroken farming lineage as far back as written records exist. Morgans fascination with the shared history of Irish farming and Irish Whiskey, led him to dream of one day diversifying his farming enterprise with the addition of a distillery as was so common centuries ago.

It took 25 years of research and painstaking effort to bring his dream to fruition. He was meticulous in his vision to build a distillery which would be a worthy modern day descendant of the glorious history of Irish Whiskey.

Therefore, with sustainability and protecting the environment central to his planning, no expense was spared to achieve the highest quality standards in every aspect of the distilling operation and tourist experience.
