Gavi is an enduring Italian classic that’s slowly creeping back into fashion. More interesting than Pinot Grigio, with softer acidity and more flavour, it ticks that easy-drinking box rather nicely. This is a great wine for drinking by itself, yet has appealing aromas of citrus and white flower with a touch of white spice that make itincredibly food-friendly. The palate has orchard and stone fruit characters and a gently rounded, lightly nutty texture. The Alasia name (and label design) is taken from the legend of the Medieval Princess Alasia who eloped with a young Saxon knight and hid out in the Monferrato region. The remains of the Ca’ d’Alasia (where they allegedly lived) is situated near Castel Boglione.
