Ras Baixas, separated from northern Portugal by the Mio River, makes some of the world’s most elegant white wines and is home to the native grape variety, Albario. The wine region ofGalicia occupies a lush green corridor of northwest Spain on the cool, Atlantic coast. The name Ras Baixas is Galician for Lower Rivers and each region has its own unique terroir, but all areas share a similar sandy, granitic soil type, perfect for the green-skinned grape.
The Palacio de Fefianes estate– the benchmark Galician producer – was the first to bottle Albario in 1928 and its winery was custom-built to be squeezed inside a 17th-century palace. The renaissance inspired palace is located on an historic square which is considered to be one of the most beautiful squares in the whole of Galicia.
Thanks to an Atlantic breeze, thisAlbarioshares the same lively, mineral-laden quality of good, bone-dry Riesling. Although it can equally be enjoyed young and fresh, two years in the cellarhave broughtout its wonderful viscosity and fleshiness. The sole-mate of seafood,Albariopairs beautifully withclams, lobster, fish, mussels, and oysters, but this is also excellent with Asian cuisine, beef or tuna tartare.
Serve at 10C. Drink now until the end of 2027.
