Tasting Note

A wonderful expression of the indigenous Avesso variety – often used as part of a blend in Vinho Verde wines. Here it shines alone and shows good aromatic intensity, with floralorange blossom, peach and citrus notes offering good freshness and minerality. On the palate fresh acidity and a medium-body provides good texture due to 4 months ageing on its lees to support the fruit, leading to a crisp and mineral finish. If you enjoy dry French whites like Muscadet, you would love this.

Try with a seafood cataplana stew.

In Santa Marinha do Zzere, Baio, in the southeast of the Demarcated Region of Vinhos Verdes, already in the heart of the Douro river valley, the Cazas Novas project was born,set up with a goal to study and interpretation of one of the most exciting Portuguese white grape varieties – Avesso.

The name Cazas Novas is inspired by one of the centenary estates where the Cunha Coutinho family has cultivated 24 hectares – the largest area dedicated to the growing of this Portuguese white grape variety.

In a transition zone between the Vinhos Verdes and the Douro, and with the river as an influence and backdrop, the hillside vineyards, on granite soils, face high thermal amplitudes, in a terroir of excellence for the Avesso grape variety, create distinctive wines, which are characterized by their freshness and minerality, but also by the potential for evolution.

Destemmed, lightly pressed, settling for 48 hours. Fermentation occurs with temperature control to keep it low. The wine is then keptin stainless still vats for 18 days before spendingfor 4 months on the lees with regular batonnage.
