A Refined Expression of Sancerre

Tasting Notes

Joseph Mellot Sancerre La Grande Chtelaine is a sophisticated and expressive Sauvignon Blanc that captures the essence of its exceptional terroir. On the nose, it presents vibrant aromas of green apple, citrus zest, and delicate floral notes, followed by hints of the signature gun-flint characteristic of Sancerres flint-rich soils. The palate is bright and crisp, with flavours of ripe lemon, gooseberry, and subtle mineral notes. Aged on its fine lees, the wine displays added depth and complexity, while its clean acidity and elegant finish leave a lasting impression.

Perfect Serve

Serve chilled at 810C to highlight its fresh, crisp character. This Sancerre is a perfect match for seafood, particularly grilled fish or oysters, as well as goats cheese, asparagus, or fresh green salads.

Artisan Craftsmanship

La Grande Chtelaine comes from a single 22-hectare vineyard located in the heart of Sancerre, on ancient soils dating back to the Cretaceous period. These flint-rich siliceous clay soils impart the distinctive gun-flint character that is a hallmark of Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc. The vineyard is farmed sustainably, with processes adapted to each unique terroir. Following cold static settling, fermentation occurs at low temperatures in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness and purity of the fruit. The wine is aged on its fine lees to enhance its depth and complexity, resulting in a beautifully balanced and elegant expression of Sauvignon Blanc.
