Maison Saint AIX is owned and run by the Kurver family who moved to the Provence region from their native Holland, purchased the domain and founded the AIX brand in 2009. Their AIX Ros has become a benchmark for Provence Ros and is now enjoyed in many of the worlds top hotels and restaurants.
Nestled in the rolling Provence hills, North-East of Aix-en-Provence, Maison Saint AIX is one of the largest domains in the AOP Coteaux dAix-en-Provence with a holding of 75 hectares planted at an altitude of 400-420 metres. This wonderful location with its cool nights and hot days and regular cooling Mistral winds are the perfect conditions for growing Grenache, Syrah & Cinsault which make up the backbone of AIX Ros together with high quality fruit sourced from other local growers.
Vineyards
With mineral rich soils, 300 days of sun a year and the cooling Mistral winds, the Provence offers the ideal growing conditions for Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault grapes, the classic blend used to make AIX Ros. Maison Saint Aix is one of the largest domaines in the AOP Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence appellation. At 420m above sea level, it’s also one of the highest. And thanks to that elevation, we enjoy cooler nights and a greater Mistral effect, drying the vines on dewy mornings – making the fruit even better.
The domaines 50-60 year old Grenache vines ensure highest quality jus, while the fruit from the younger vines brings freshness. To maintain the harmony of the land, the winery run a busy replanting schedule – replacing up 4 hectares a year with new vines.
Vinification
Over the last 10 years, Maison Saint AIX completely overhauled the estate from vines to cellar. Thanks to their state-of-the-art-equipment – from temperature controlled stainless steel tanks to pneumatic presses to the next generation harvesting machinery – they can truly produce the quality of ros that only the Provence can offer.
Tasting Notes
If you love Whispering Angel then you should definitely try this! A fragrant and well balanced wine.
A lovely pale, salmon pink colour with beautiful, shiny reflections. The nose is quite delicate, fruit-forward, clean and complex, with notes of fresh red fruits, peach and some subtle floral hints. AIX Ros 2020 offers roundness on the palate and a beautiful aromatic depth before finding freshness and some minerality in its long and precise finish.
