Madeira wine is a fortified wine made in a sweet or dry style and dates back to the time when wine was transported long distances by ship. Madeira was a standard port of call for ships on their way to the new world and so to prevent the wine from spoiling on the long, hot journey it was fortified; neutral spirit was added to the wine. When the wine producers discovered an unsold consignment that was retuned to the island they were amazed by the wines transformation and complexity of flavour. Today, the wine is heated deliberately (no long travels across the atlantic necessary).

This 10 year old Boal is a brilliant, deep, amber colour. Strong aromas oftreacle and raisins on the nose. Medium-bodied, it packs a punch with flavours of spices and nuts on the long, pleasant finish.
